Relationships/Parenting Workshop
taught by Nicole Werner, PhD, CD(DONA), LCCE
Co-owner of Palouse Doulas LLC

Most new parent programs address the birth of the child.
Bringing Baby Home addresses the rest of the couple’s life together.

Even the strongest relationships are strained during the transition to parenthood. Lack of sleep, never-ending housework and new fiscal concerns can lead to profound stress and a decline in marital satisfaction – all of which affect baby’s care. Not surprisingly, 69% of new parents experience conflict, disappointment and hurt feelings.

The Bringing Baby Home workshop
is designed for expectant and new parents to develop skills and techniques that will help ease the transition that comes with the addition of a baby to the family.

Bringing Baby Home was developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman - leading experts in the fields of marriage and early parenting.  Unlike many other programs, Bringing Baby Home is based on best practices supported by research findings and has been shown to increase the chances that a couple will successfully navigate this stressful period in their relationship.
The 2-day Bringing Baby Home Workshop addresses many of the common concerns and experiences of new parents. Through a series of dynamic short presentations, exercises, video clips and facilitated group discussion the workshop provides research based information and guidance to help couples begin to navigate the challenges of transitioning to parenthood.

Couples who participate in a Bringing Baby Home workshop can expect to learn:
  • How to remain better connected to each other emotionally through the transition to parenthood;
  • The importance of co-parenting;
  • Strategies for managing conflict; and
  • What the research says about behaviors that are best avoided to ensure a continued strong and thriving relationship.
Cost is $175/couple and includes:
  • One Couple’s Workbook: Bringing Baby Home Couple’s Workbook, 250 pages. Includes insightful research, key parenting tips, guides and information, resources and interactive exercises.
  • Six Card Decks:  These fun, interactive cards are used in the Bringing Baby Home Workshop with parents as interactive exercises.  Titles include: Love Map Cards, Love Map Cards For Couples with Kids, Open-Ended Questions Cards, Father’s Cards, Expressing Needs Cards, Softened Start-up Cards.
Next Session: TBD
