The mission of the Uma Center is to strengthen and empower parents on the Palouse. We do this by supporting local practitioners who offer pregnancy and labor services, education, support groups, and other wellness services. We believe that it takes a village to raise children and that all parents, new and experienced, need support. Strong and healthy parents raise strong and healthy children.
Who We Are Today
We opened our doors in November of 2013 as the newly remodeled Uma Center. We are a collective of independent practitioners who specialize in various aspects of women's health, pregnancy and childbirth, and parenting. In addition to being the professional home to several businesses, our large first-floor teaching space allows us to host classes, workshops, support groups and other community events that benefit women and their families. Tara Hoger, Founder
Tara is a Holistic Health Practitioner with extensive knowledge in nutrition, mind/body/spirit connection, craniosacral therapy, somatoemotional release, life transitions, wellness coaching, and connecting with nature as a guiding force. She is the original founder and director of the Uma Center and holds the strong belief that women should be supported and honored in their wisdom as they travel the terrain of motherhood. Also a former doula, she now specializes in Holistic Pregnancy Support.
Nicole Werner, Director
In 2002, I began my career as a faculty member in the Department of Human Development at Washington State University. At the age of 40, I made the decision to leave my tenured position to pursue a new career as a birth professional. I now work full-time as a birth doula and childbirth educator. I met Tara in 2012 and she graciously offered to pass the Uma Center over to me so she could have more time to focus on her holistic health practice. My hope is to build on her original vision by creating a one-stop community resource center that nurtures and supports parents using evidence-based approaches to pregnancy, childbirth, parenting, and women's health.
